Encountering Christ’s Love: Bishop Simon Peter Celebrates Holy Thursday at St. John’s
In a moment of profound connection, our hearts at St. John the Evangelist resonated with those of Catholic believers globally on Holy Thursday, as we together commemorated its sacred and transformative events. Together, we humbly participated in the symbolic washing of feet, echoing Christ’s extraordinary love and selfless service at the Last Supper. In that powerful gesture, Jesus, our Lord and Teacher, knelt before his disciples, offering us a timeless lesson in humility and the imperative to serve one another.
Our spirits were also lifted as we remembered the institution of the Holy Eucharist, the ultimate gift of love. In the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup, Christ gave us himself – a testament to his unending love and a source of strength for our journey of faith. This sacred meal calls us not only to receive but also to give, to extend that same boundless love to those around us.
We were blessed to have Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe, our Auxiliary Bishop, celebrate this sacred Mass with us. His inspiring homily resonated deeply, urging each of us to carry the spirit of selfless love ignited on Holy Thursday within our hearts, not just for this holy season, but always. His words served as a powerful reminder that the love we witness in Christ’s actions and receive in the Eucharist is meant to be lived out in our daily lives, through acts of kindness, compassion, and unwavering support for one another.
As we continue our journey through the Paschal Triduum, let us hold these powerful moments close. May the humility of the foot washing inspire us to greater acts of service, and may the gift of the Eucharist empower us to love more deeply and selflessly. Let the spirit of Holy Thursday permeate our homes, our families, and our community.
May God’s abundant blessings be upon you and your loved ones.
BISHOP
