“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” – Matthew 5:8

On November 2nd, 2025, the St. John the Evangelist Parish community joined the universal Church in the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) — a sacred moment of prayer and remembrance for all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith.

This feast is a tender expression of the Church’s love and mercy, as she prays especially for the faithful departed — our loved ones who, having died in God’s grace, are being purified in preparation for the eternal joy of Heaven.

While All Saints’ Day (November 1st) celebrates those already in glory, All Souls’ Day (November 2nd) remembers those still on the journey toward it. The Church, in her compassion, intercedes for them so that they may swiftly share in the eternal vision of God.

In deep reverence and unity, parishioners gathered at Lang’ata Cemetery — a resting place for many, including members of our parish community — for a special Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jonathan Terna, C.S.Sp., our Parish Priest. After the Eucharistic celebration, a solemn blessing of graves followed, invoking God’s mercy upon all who rest in this sacred ground.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.

This day reminds us that love does not end at death. Our prayers, sacrifices, and the Holy Mass offered for the departed express the profound truth that God’s love and mercy are greater than the grave. The Communion of Saints unites heaven, earth, and purgatory in a beautiful act of faith and hope.

May this celebration inspire us all to live lives of holiness, forgiveness, and love — always mindful of our eternal home with God.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
